- Alcohol abuse, according to WHO, is the third most frequent cause of death after cardiovascular and oncological diseases in the modern world. [4,5,7,8] Diagnosis of acute alcohol poisoning is based on the results of a forensic chemical study. In this case, the diagnosis of acute poisoning is often made even with alcohol concentrations lower than it is commonly believed in official documents [30]. Publications covering deaths from alcohol consumption are mostly devoted to acute poisoning, and to a lesser-studied mortality from chronic alcohol intoxication (CAI).
