  • Scarus niger Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775 —Swarthy parrotfish Status at New Ireland. First recorded as Pseudoscarus viridis from New Ireland by Guichenot (1865: 33–34), and from New Hanover by Peters (1877: 843). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005, and by Barry C. Russell on 14 and 28 June 2014. Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marshall and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island. Solitary, in coastal and seaward coral reefs, 0–20 m depth. Marine.
