- Lethrinus variegatus Valenciennes [ex Ehrenberg] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1830—Slender emperor Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Hanover and Edmago Island, Kavieng, New Ireland by Munro (1958: 204). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005. KFRS material. Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Palau and Tonga, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia and Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, in seagrass areas and on sand or rubble bottoms adjacent to coral reefs, 1–15 m depth. Marine.
