- ABSTRACT This is a cross-sectional questionnaire-based study involving 370 pregnant antenatal clinic attendees, drawn from health facilities selected from three senatorial districts in Anambra state. The study conducted during the lock-down period in response to the COVID-19 pandemic (from 25th March to 22nd April 2020) examined the influence of covid-19 on selected habits and practices of pregnant women. Data analysis was done using SPSS (IBM Cooperation) Windows version 26 and results were displayed in tables and figures. As high as 87% (322) of the respondents resorted more to rest than work; 53% (198) admitted to increased sexual activity; while compliance to antenatal attendance remained the same in 54.9% (203) but was adversely affected in only 6.8% (25). Only about 46% of the women carried out regular exercise while the remaining 54% either practised irregular physical exercise or never. There were significant increases in intake of fruits, vegetables and water, 65.4% (242), 69.5% (257) and 96.2 (356) respectively. The study highlighted the need to devise measures to increase physical activity to reduce the problems related to low physical activity during pregnancy while suggesting the adoption of community-based standardized care to increase antenatal attendance during pregnancy in disease pandemics.
