- Highly esteemed Professor Dr. Cecilia Söderberg-Nauclér, I read your article Presence of the Human Cytomegalovirus in Glioblastomas—A Systematic Review with great pleasure. You are writing among other: "Further studies are needed to determine why optimized methods are required to detect the virus and why it is difficult to detect viral nucleic acids by PCR and sequencing techniques." I do happily agree with this conclusion. However, and as already published by myself, human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is not a cause but the cause of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). For me, it is beyond any reasonable doubt that the data provided by you i.e. your study group are the toughest data on the relationship between HCVM and GBM available which allow us to establish a causal relationship between HCVM and GBM. I have recalculated your data in this letter and, without further ado, I have come to the same conclusion. Human cytomegalovirus is the cause of glioblastoma multiforme. Unfortunately, it is not up to me to propose you or your study group publicly for the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Others, however, should consider doing so soon. In fact, you and your study group deserve the Nobel Prize in Medicine in this regard. Unfortunately, it is to be feared that this public appeal will fade away with no real effect in our very fast-moving times. Nevertheless, it is a privilege for me to convey my congratulations to you in this way for the data you have provided, the same data cannot be ignored.
