- Today, cognitive disorders are associated with diabetes mellitus (Diabetes), the increase in the incidence of which in recent years has become an epidemic. One of the targets of the influence of hyperglycemia is the central nervous system, which manifests itself in clinical cognitive impairment. Clinically significant cognitive impairments lead to impaired work and social adaptation, as well as to a decrease in the quality of life. Cognitive impairments in patients with diabetes reduce the ability to adequately control hyperglycemia and increase the risk of complications leading to early disability. Studying the connection between cognitive impairment and diabetes may help to find one of the ways preventing the increase in the incidence of dementia, which, according to some experts, has a chance to become the main "epidemic" of the 21st century. Agenda. Identification of characteristic clinical, neurological and cognitive changes in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Research methods. All subjects underwent a general clinical, standard neurological and neuropsychological study of cognitive functions in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Results. A decrease in cognitive functions in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with chronic cerebral ischemia based on a complex of neuropsychological tests was revealed in 81% of cases, in 55% of patients, cognitive impairment met the criteria for mild cognitive disorders, in 26% of patients, initial cognitive disorders and in 19% of cognitive disorders were not observed. Conclusions. The use of modern approaches to the diagnosis of CR makes it possible to identify patients with a high risk of dementia in the early stages of the disease and, thus, to start early pathogenetic therapy aimed at maintaining sufficient performance and a satisfactory quality of life for patients.
