  • 4. Planaeschna viridis Karube, 2004 (Fig. 6) Planaeschna viridis: Karube (2004) pp. 5–8, Figs 10–20 (description of male and female). Material examined. 1 ♂, Bach Ma NP, Thua Thien-Hue Prov., Vietnam, 7-VIII-2016, TK leg. Notes. Karube (2004) described P. viridis from Bach Ma NP. The species takes its name from the green maculation on its thorax and abdomen. This coloration is remarkable because, as Karube (2004: p. 8) states, “usually species have a greenish mark on the pterothorax but it is tinted with yellow.” Likewise, the lateral markings on S1–3 are yellowish in most species, not green. The description also notes the “parrot green” colour of the face. The male specimen collected on 7 August 2016 did not have a green facial pattern, although in all other aspects it fitted the description (Fig. 6A). For differences with similar P. samurai and P. tomokunii see under those species. Ecology. Based on earlier records the flight period extends from at least May to September. The examined specimen was caught at 1000 m asl., hawking over a stream at dusk, rapidly flying at 4–5 m height. Distribution. Endemic to Vietnam (Thua Thien-Hue Prov.)
