This euryhaline South Asian cichlid is wellestablished in Singapore (Ng TH & Tan, 2010) and besides being found in freshwater reservoirs, has also adapted to saline conditions of estuarine and coastal waters (Tan & Ng, 2016; Tan, 2017a).
