  • This study examines the host community behaviour and the challenges they pose to developmental agency (NDDC) on sustainable development of the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Data for the study was generated through structured interview. The study reveals that illicit financial gains of community members, poor communication, lack of transparency from NDDC and their contractors, youth restiveness, intra/inter community conflicts affect the implementation of developmental projects. Lack of awareness of NDDC project initiation and implementation plans cause conflict in the region. The paper, stresses that when articulating future developmental plans, NDDC should consider inputs by local oil bearing communities.
