(type locality: Changbin, Taitung county, southeastern Taiwan). Remarks. A deep-living species that is only represented by the two type specimens collected from southeastern Taiwan and one specimen from southwestern Taiwan (USNM 395050); it is easily confused with Gymnothorax melanosomatus, which was also described from same region.
