- The relevance of research topic lies in the lack of published works on the problems of poverty in the context of national security. The issues of selecting indicators for assessing socio-economic security and determining their thresholds are integral components of the strategic guidelines for sustainable development of the country. Formulation of the problem. The methodology for determining the threshold values of poverty as an indicator of socio-economic security is poorly disclosed in the scientific literature. Analysis of recent research and publications. The article considers the results of published studies on the problem of assessing the threshold level of poverty (low income) of the population by Belarusian and Russian authors. The given estimates of the threshold level of poverty (6 %, 7 %, 10 %) they are close to each other, but there is no description of the method of their calculation. Setting the task, the purpose of the research. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the threshold value of the level of low-income for Belarus, which is relevant at this stage of socio-economic development. Method and methodology of the research. In the course of the research, general scientific methods were used: induction and deduction, analysis, synthesis, analogy, comparison, abstraction; methods of empirical analysis: description, comparison, grouping, theoretical generalization, logical modeling. Presentation of the main material (results of work). The article considers three approaches to determining the threshold of poverty (low income). The author's assessment of the threshold value of the level of low-income is presented on the basis of two approaches: an assessment of the retrospective macroeconomic development of the country; a comparison of countries by the international level of poverty. The field of application of results. The results of the study can be used to justify the threshold value of low-income status as an indicator of the social component of national security in Belarus and other countries, and to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of socio-economic policy. Conclusions according to the article. The article substantiates the current range of low-income threshold values of 10-12% for Belarus. The level of poverty up to 10% should be considered safe; from 10 to 12 % - an acceptable level; 12 % and above-a high level that poses challenges to sustainable development.
