- The paper presents results of the part of investigation, that was conducted in the forest of the Silesian Upland in the 1997-2000 years. The aim of this investigation takes notice to reasons and effects the expansion of Carex brizoides to forest communities e.g. oak-hornbeam forests. Anthropogenic transformations of forest communities have raised as a result of forest management (tree cutive), land improvements (drainage of the area), the maining industry and emission of pollution were conducive to spreading of Carex brizoides in forests. When Carex brizoides appears in forest communities, it changes their structure and functioning. This very expansive species also slows down the progress of native flora and eliminates species, which often are protected and characteristic for syntaxonomical units. This grass causes impoverishment of plant communities and reduces the species diversity. Carex brizoides gives forest communities the characteristic "grassy" physiognomy, which is one of forms degeneration of forest communities.
