  • All major extreme events require an instant, all-inclusive and professional response. So far, a disintegrated structure dominated the EM landscape, leaving each community or county responsible for preparing for the emergencies. This disjointed system often created momentous risk exposures to public, and inadequate resources resulted in substantial loss of life and property. In every emergency, getting accurate information about the scope, extent and impact of the hazard is critical to creating and composing an effective emergency response and recovery effort. Dearth of integrated systems and lack of an exact understanding of the situation based on real time information can obstruct effective resolution, resulting in risks to human life and damage to critical infrastructure. There is a need for emergency planners and responders who can use a wide variety of technologies and tools to assist them during an extreme event. Although several solutions have been tested, many issues and problems are unsolved. The research addresses the gap in knowledge that impedes a scalable and versatile emergency data integration and propose the state-of-the-art technology in the field to a new level through enhanced techniques that bring together machine learning, data analytics and semantic technologies. The overall idea is to gather heterogeneous data from several resources such as social media, meteorological, input from first responders and people in hazard and will semantically integrate them to deliver decision support services to the Emergency Service (ES) or authorities. This is achieved by exploring challenges for handling heterogeneity, data fusion, multimodal data gathering, advanced visualisation and interaction techniques for enhanced situational awareness. The poster reviews and analyses advanced tools that are available to access useful and credible climate data, information and knowledge on climate vulnerability and risk. Further it presents novel approach for effectively handling of extreme natural hazards. This poster paper presents our experience in enhancing situational awareness to support decision making during extreme climate events by capitalizing on the integration and aggregated analysis of mobility, meteorological, forecasting data, as well as of a multitude of pertinent multimedia data inputs.
