- The present study aimed to highlight the specifics of the preschool teachers’ work by investigating the social representation that students attending the university program Pedagogy of Primary and Preschool Education have about this practice field. Participants (N = 134) completed a standardized task based on the free association technique. The responses were analyzed lexically and semantically to differentiate the associations from a qualitative perspective. Quantitative processing was based on the operations of categorical and prototypical analysis (P. Vergès). The results highlighted three dimensions of the representation on preschool teachers’ work: a) conceptual-definitional (referring to education and training as main missions that an educator/teacher for preschool education has); b) psychosocial (love, dedication, and responsibility towards children); c) a ludic dimension (which is specific to the formative environment in kindergartens).
