HOLOTYPE: AMNH 672260, adult male, collected at Maimbun, 05.56N, 121.02E (Dickinson et al., 1991: 421), Sulu Island, Sulu Archipelago, Philippine Islands, on 23 April 1883, by F.H.H. Guillemard. From the Rothschild Collection. COMMENTS: In the original description, Hartert provided unique data for the holotype of suluensis and measurements for more than one specimen. Guillemard (1885a: 259), reporting on his Sulu collection, listed three males, two females and one sex? from Sulu Island. Three males, and two with sex unrecorded came to AMNH with the Roth schild Collection. The paratypes in AMNH are: Maimbun, AMNH 672261, male, 21 April 1883, AMNH 672262, male, April 1883; Sulu Island, AMNH 672263, 672264, sex?, April 1883. Guillemard (1889: 198–200) recounted his bird-collecting activities during his first stay at Maimbun (spelled Meimbun in the book) during which these specimens were collected.
