- The SARS-CoV-2 is a novel β-coronavirus, which is enveloped non-segmented positive-sense RNA virus that causes COVID-19 disease. Few studies showed that glycyrrhizin from liquorice root has some anti-viral effect on coronaviruses, what opens the question can glycyrrhizin be used as experimental drug for the treatment of COVID-19 patients or can this compound lead to the development of similar, more potent drugs. Another interesting compound is resveratrol (from grape seeds and red wine) that is available as 200 mg capsules for which has been found that has some in vitro anti-viral effect on coronaviruses too.
