  • Psammophis praeornatus (Schlegel, 1837) MATERIAL EXAMINED. — 6 specimens (MNHN 2006.2207, Yo [Agome Yo]; MRAC 29658, MRAC 29665, Borgou; MRAC 29464, Aledjo; GHS-W 1010, Sodo Zion; T 227, Bafilo). MORPHOLOGY. — TL of our specimens from 480 to 640 mm; 15 MSR smooth; 172-197 Ven, smooth; 108-128 Sc, paired; anal divided but entire in specimen MNHN 2006.2207; 8-9 supralabials; 9-10 infralabials; 1 preocular; 2 postoculars; temporal scale formula 1 + 2 + 3. DISTRIBUTION. — This species is widespread throughout the country but is more common in the savannah area. It had previously been cited from Togo by Sternfeld (1908b, 1909: 21) from Mango, Loveridge (1940) and Hulselmans et al. (1970, 1971).
