  • Angela armata (De Haan, 1842) (Figs. 35–36) Mantis (Thespis) armata De Haan, 1842: 95. = Angela fulgida Saussure, 1872: 61. Type locality. (A. fulgida) Cayenne, French Guiana (Saussure, 1872). Records. ZSM: ♀, forest station, 22.IX.–10.X.2017, leg. E.-G. Burmeister (Fig. 36). Distribution. Brazil, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru. Remarks. The females of this species are very similar to those of A. guianensis Rehn, 1906 (Fig. 38). We tentatively assigned this specimen to A. armata because it corresponds to the females of two pairs raised from oothecae obtained from a native Peruvian collector in the mid-2000s (SMNK, CSC). The male described by Lombardo & Agabiti (2001) was erroneously connected with A. armata. As pointed out by Beier (1942, misspelled as Angela “ ornata ”) and confirmed by our specimens, the male (Fig. 35) is blackish, rather small for the genus, with denticulated pronotal margins, slightly convex metazona margins, and completely dark smoky hindwings except for the typical brownish apical mark in the discoidal field. Measurements (in mm, see also Beier 1942): body 69.3, head width 4.3, pronotum length 23.1, pronotum width 2.2, prozona 4.3, metazona 18.8, forecoxa 11.1, forefemur 14.0, foretibia 5.3, tegmen length 26.6, tegmen width 3.6, ala length 32,8, ala width 14.1. The cerci of the studied specimen are regenerated, but according to Beier (1942) they are broad and with truncated apex.
