MENINGITIS AMONG THE PATIENTS PRESENTING IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

  • Meningitis is an acute inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known collectively as the meninges. The most common symptoms are fever, headache, and neck stiffness. This cross-sectional study was conducted among the patients presenting in the emergency department of different hospitals. Name, age, gender and history of meningitis were noted on a predefined proforma. All the data was entered and analyzed with SPSS Ver. 23.0. A total of 50 patients presenting in emergency department were included in this study i.e., 25 males (50%) and 25 females (50%). The mean age of the patients was 32.22±3.22 years. Out of these patients, only three patients presented with meningitis.
