SomestudiessuggestthatCeliacDiseasewas20timesmorefrequentintype1patientswithdiabetes.The objectiveofour studywastoevaluatetheprevalenceofceliacdiseaseinhospitalbasedtype1diabetic adults.Methods:OurstudywascarriedoutretrospectivelyinNishtar Hospital, Multanbetween2016–2017.Thecohortcomprised482type1patientswithdiabetesattending the diabetes outpatient clinic.The data were analyzed by SPSS10.5 package program.Student’st tests is used for comparative analyses.Ap-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:Thecohortincluded482type1patientswithdiabetes.Fiftysevenofthemwerenotevaluatedfor Endomysiumantibodypositivity.Fifteenoftheremaining425patientswerepositivefor antiendomysial antibody(3.5%).Theprevalenceofbiopsyprovenceliacdiseasewas2.3%(10/425).Therewasnosignificant differencebetweenEndomysialantibodypositiveandnegativegroupsinregardofage,sex,ordurationof the disease.Conclusion:Thisstudyconfirmsthattheceliacdiseaseiscommonintype1diabeticpatients.Sinceasmall proportionofceliacpatientsaresymptomaticthisdisordershouldbescreenedinalladulttype1patients with diabetes by antiendomysium antibody.
