  • Canarium indicum Linnaeus, Amoenitates Academicae 4: 143. 1759. Type not designated. Original material: [icon] in Rumphius, Herb. Amboin. 2: t. 47-56. 1741. Generitype of Canarium Linnaeus. Current name: Canarium indicum L. (Burseraceae). Note: See comments by Merrill (Interpret. Rumph. Herb. Amb.: 301. 1917) who abandoned C. indicum on the grounds that Linnaeus had cited under it all the species of Canarium figured by Rumphius (t. 47 to t. 56 inclusive), and had later taken up C. commune L. (1767) for just one of them. However, Leenhouts (in Blumea 9: 329. 1959) accepted C. indicum both as a valid name and as the generitype. His designation of a neotype (p. 360), though, is contrary to Art. 9.11 because original material (the cited Rumphius plates) exists.
