  • Phleum nodosum Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 871. 1759. ["Habitat in Gallia, Helvetia, Italia."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 1: 88 (1762). RCN: 509. Lectotype (Doğan in Cafferty & al. in Taxon 49: 254. 2000): Séguier, Herb. Linn. No. 81.2 (LINN). Current name: Phleum nodosum L. (Poaceae). Note: Although often treated as a variety of P. pratense L., P. nodosum has also been taken up at species rank in the sense of P. bertolonii DC., over which the Linnaean name has priority. However, recent accounts have tended either to use P. bertolonii at species rank, or P. pratensis subsp. bertolonii (DC.) Bornm. at subspecific rank. Doğan, in typifying the name, favoured recognition at species rank with P. bertolonii falling into the synonymy of P. nodosum. However, if treated at the subspecies level, the correct name appears to be P. pratensis subsp. nodosum (L.) Dumort.
