Clifford: 23, Phalaris 1 (BM-000557659). Generitype of Phalaris Linnaeus (vide Host, Icon. Descript. Gram. Austr. 3: 5. 1805; Hitchcock in U.S. Dept. Agric. Bull. 772: 202. 1920). Current name: Phalaris canariensis L. (Poaceae). Note: Phalaris canariensis, with the type designated by Baldini & Jarvis, was proposed as conserved type of the genus by Jarvis (in Taxon 41: 567. 1992). However, the proposal was eventually ruled unnecessary by the General Committee (see Barrie, l.c. 55: 795-796. 2006 for a review of the history of this and related proposals).
