- Abstract: The main aim of the study is to examine selected aspects of the professional training of Physical Education Teacher in Portugal. The paper begins with a summary of the fundamental stages on the last hundred years of Physical Education teaching in Portugal, followed by a review of the current higher education system. Furthermore, it presents a description of the process for the implementation of specific courses for Physical Education Teachers in Basic and Secondary Education. Due to its relevance, an analysis is made of the objectives of Physical Education Teaching at different levels and degrees of education and teaching.
