- Rubus occidentalis Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 493. 1753. "Habitat in Canada. Kalm." RCN: 3755. Lectotype (Widrlechner in Castanea 63: 423. 1998): Kalm, Herb. Linn. No. 653.2 (LINN). Current name: Rubus occidentalis L. (Rosaceae). Note: Although Bailey (in Gentes Herb. 1: 147. 1923; 5: 883. 1945) noted the existence of 653.2 and 652.3 (LINN), and interpreted the name from the former and the description, he did not explicitly call it the type.
