Carolina 1: 26, t. 26. 1730. Generitype of Zanthoxylum Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 142. 1929). Current name: Zanthoxylum clava-herculis L. (Rutaceae). Note: Porter (in Brittonia 28: 444. 1977) indicated Linnaeus’ description from Hortus Cliffortianus (1738) as the type but this is contrary to Art. 8.1.
