Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, South Africa, Socotra, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Mascarenes and Persian Gulf east to Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan and Ryukyu Islands and Ogasawara Islands, south to Lord Howe Island, northern New Zealand, Kermadec Islands and Rapa; straying to Hawaiian Islands. Conservation. IUCN: Global (NE). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Rare. Non-indigenous species, no conservation action needed.
