- Hipposideros scutinares Robinson, Jenkins, Francis and Fulford, 2003 Shield-nosed roundleaf bat Hipposideros scutinares Robinson, Jenkins, Francis and Fulford, 2003: 33; Ban Khankeo, along the upper Nam Hinboun, Bolikhamsai Province, Khammouan Limestone NBCA, Lao PDR. The original description incorrectly assigned the type locality to Bolikhamxai province, where it should have been Khammouan Province. Distribution Lao PDR, Vietnam. This species is currently listed as Vulnerable by The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (Francis and Bates, 2008 b) because it is known only from a geographically restricted area and from few localities therein. Loss of forest is an additional threat to this species (Francis, 2008). Distribution in Lao PDR (Fig. 40): Houaphan Province: Tham Nam (HI collection); Khammouan Province: Tam Dan Jar (Tham Dancha); Tam Jungvung Cave (Tham Chungvung); Tam Pha Muang (Tham Phamuang), Ban Tonglom (Ban Thonglom); Tam Thea (Tham Tem) (Robinson et al., 2003); Tham Koun Don; Tham Lo, Ban That (HI collection); Ban Khankeo, Khammouan Limestone NBCA; Nakai Plateau (SMF collection); Louangnamtha Province: Tham Pasat-thia 3 (HI collection). Taxonomic note A single specimen from the same series as the HI material listed above is in the collection at HNHM (HNHM.2006.59.1). This specimen possibly represents H. lylei, however this ID is not fully confirmed (P. J. J. Bates and G. Csorba, personal communication).
