- This paper tries to look into the existential situation of loss, which confronts Indian catholic women. It specifically explores the ways in which women cope with loss. Through vivid examples of three catholic women from different social strata it argues that loss when faced with courage can be transformed into moments of self revelation and spiritual vivacity. However, we should be cautious about the tendency to romanticize suffering and loss. Romanticizing suffering leads to victimization of the one in pain. This results in an alienation from the self and the path to subjecthood and agency is thwarted.
