- An outline with practical examples of how commercial off the shelf small unmanned aerial systems (aka. drones or consumer drones) can help add value in humanitarian mine action. It is meant to be a guide for the landmine and explosives of war clearance sector, plus an introduction for researchers and donors. Two main types of drone operations took place during validation phases - under actual field conditions in the Sahara desert, Chad; inspection and cartography missions. An emphasis is placed on the value of data outputs, particularly how aerial data can help augment; manual demining, non technical survey, mechanical demining, pre-deployment planning and quality assurance tasks on the ground.
