- Report submitted in fulfillment of a 2006 and 2007 Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative grant. We collected spiders on Nantucket, Tuckernuck and Muskeget Islands in 2006 and 2007 to assemble a list of species for the area. While most identifications have not been verified, the current list represents 301 species. Identification work is ongoing. We have a measure of capture effort associated with 96 % of the 3,762 specimens and all the data are stored in an Access database at the Maria Mitchell Natural Science Museum. 17% of the specimens have been deposited at the Museum of Comparative Zoology in Cambridge, MA. The current collection is 47% similar to a historical species list published by James Emerton in 1930. We located the voucher collection Emerton left with the Maria Mitchell Association in 1930 and we hope to re-identify many of his specimens. In this document we report our 2007 collecting efforts, summarize the state of the collection, provide species lists for the three islands and seven Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative 10 hectare plots.
