- The purpose of this thesis is engineering and geological surveys for the development of the railway infrastructure of the Trans-Baikal Territory on the example of sections (1) Chara - Sakukan and (2) Ikabya - Senatorial. They include the study of the geological structure, hydrogeological and geocryological conditions of the site for design work. The thesis consists of three parts: general, special and experimental one. In the first (general) part, a brief physical and geographical description of the area of work, an economic and geographical outline is presented. A history of geological, hydrogeological, and engineering geological knowledge is provided. Stratigraphic units and a detailed lithological description is given. In addition, the history of the geological development of the territory was studied, and exogenous geological processes developed in the studied area were also described. In the second (special) part of the thesis, a set of engineering and geological works is considered, the purpose of which is to study the geological structure, geocryological and hydrogeological conditions, determine the physicomechanical and corrosion properties of soils on the existing railway section Novaya Chara-Sakukan, the methodology and volumes are presented works. The third part describes the design work methodology. It includes geotechnical surveys, i.e. description of the types and volumes of planned work for the construction of the second track on the Ikabya section - pos. Senatorial. The designed methodology includes the following workflow using existing GOSTs: 1) pre-field preparation, 2) reconnaissance survey, 3) drilling works, 4) raw data capture during fieldwork, 5) laboratory studies of the soils, 6) geophysical studies, 7) computer based data processing and 8) report writing. The following final results are presented in the work: (I) studied geological structure, hydrogeological and geocryological conditions of the site for design work, (II) compiled project methodology, (III) compiled a calendar schedule for the design work and (IV) calculated the total estimated cost of the planned works.
