Options for substitution of gas applications via sector integration technologies

  • Natural Gas can only be a bridge to an emission free energy supply. Until 2050 most processes in the whole economy need to be transformed. For current applications of natural gas two possibilities exist: substitution of natural gas by SNG and biomethane or substitution by using another (sector coupling or integration) technology. In this paper, current gas applications are identified, and integration technologies are presented. Further, transformation pathways for heat supply applications (based on a transformation model applying learn curves to technologies) are presented.
