- Report submitted in fulfillment of a 2005 Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative grant. The objectives of this study were to sample above ground insects over one growing season on Nantucket in terrestrial plant communities that represent various habitats of the pitch pine/scrub oak barrens. At this point so little is known of habitat requirements for the majority of Nantucket’s terrestrial insects, so the intention of this study was not strictly to assess management practices, but rather to begin understanding insect community structure within these habitats so that potential groups for monitoring may be identified for assessing management activities.
