- Gymnotus sylvius Albert, Fernandes-Matioli, 1999 Fig. 16 Body elongated and compressed; greatest depth contained 7.0 to 9.3 times in TL; head length 7.1 to 8.2, anal-fin base length 1.2 in LEA; snout length 3.0 to 3.3, horizontal orbital diameter 12,8 to 14.0 and least interorbital width 2.6 to 2.7 in HL. Mouth superior, dentary prognathous. Pectoral fin with 15 or 16 rays and anal fin with 220-228 rays; transverse series above lateral line with 8 or 9 scale rows (Albert et al., 1999). Ground color pale brown; body with light-beige transverse bars alternating with dark-brown transverse bars; light-beige bars wider than dark-brown bars. Anal fin with posterior portion light-beige (Graça, Pavanelli, 2007). Maximum total length. 360.0 mm (Graça, Pavanelli, 2007). Distribution. Rio Ribeira de Iguape, rio Paraíba do Sul and rio Pardo basins.
