- Classically, an optical chemical sensor comprises of a chemical recognition phase i.e., sensing element or receptor joined with a transduction element. The receptor identifies a parameter e.g., the concentration of a specified compound, pH, etc., and provides an optical signal comparative to the magnitude of this parameter. The function of the receptor is gratified in several cases by a thin layer that is gifted to collaborate with the analyte molecules, catalyse a reaction selectively or partake in a chemical equilibrium together with the analyte. Biosensors are logical devices composed of a recognition component of biological origin and a physico-chemicaltransducer. Immobilization plays a leading role in developing the biosensor by integrating both the abovementioned mechanisms. In this short editorial note, an analytical review of fiber-optic sensors and biosensors for the development of biosensors for environmental and clinical monitoring have been reviewed.
