  • [First record of the Grey long-eared bat Plecotus austriacus (Chiroptera, Vespertilionidae) in Sardinia and confirm of the presence of the Long-eared bat Plecotus auritus in the island]. Three specimens of Plecotus austriacus (Chiroptera,Vespertilionidae) were found for the first time in Sardinia. The bats were caught with mist-nets in two different localities in the province of Nuoro, in the Siniscola and Lula districts. Moreover we confirm the presence of Plecotus auritus in Sardinia. This species had not been found on the island since the beginning of the 20th century. We identified the bats using morphological characters and our determination was validated with sequencing the 16S gene of the mitochondrial DNA.
