  • The aim of this study was to identify Work style related and other ergonomic risk factors that may be associated with the onset or exacerbation of Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSD) among Information Technology (IT) professionals and to look for the correlation between the two. It is a retrospective report analysis of 5331 professionals working for various IT companies in India. Ergonomic workplace analysis reports of those employees were analysed retrospectively. Report consisted of Demographic data (age, gender etc.), workstation information, working posture information, perceived pain and discomfort, and workstyle questionnaire addressing psychosocial factors. Majority of respondents were males and used laptops, desktops and sometimes both for their work. Majority of the workers worked more than 8 hours but there were significant number who worked less than 3 hours and still had symptoms. Neck pain and lower back pain were the more prevalent, followed by wrist, upper back and shoulder pain. 80% of participants worked with their upper arm and shoulders raised and away from the body. The short form workstyle questionnaire score analysis indicated significant participants with a high risk score (score ≥ 28) for adverse workstyle. Correlation coefficient analyses indicated a significant positive correlation between workstyle score and pain, and posture and regional pain.
