West coast of South Africa to northern Namibia, 18– 131 m. Remarks. This species, although relatively recently described, appears to be well established in the cold waters of the west coast of southern Africa, extending from St. Helena Bay, northwards to the Namibian-Angolan border. It is well characterised by the presence in the body wall of plates, often with a smooth, elongated, spine-like process.
