  • The Magellanic Clouds are the first extragalactic environment in which large-scale, systematic surveys for young stellar objects have been possible. In this talk, I will review the extraordinary advances in the study of resolved star formation made possible in the last decade by large photometric infrared surveys (with Spitzer, Herschel and VISTA). I will briefly touch on the numerous spectroscopic and high angular resolution follow-up studies that have allowed us to identify disc and outflow candidates, probe ice and gas chemistry, and compute accretion rates. I will also highlight recent results from surveys of young main-sequence and pre-main sequence stars (with VISTA and HST). Finally I will look forward to what we can expect from the next decade in this field.
