  • It is obviously undeniable that being able to speak English confidently and correctly has been a big challenge of almost all HUFI freshmen. Thus, to make the students interested and confident to express their ideas in English, the writer applied blended learning method. The main focus of this paper is to observe the implementation of blended learning in teaching English speaking. The subject of this quantitative research is the first-year students in two classes. The data were collected by interviewing the speaking teacher, observing the classroom activities and giving the questionnaire to the students. The results of the study indicated that the application of blended learning in teaching English speaking at university was able to motivate the students to speak confidently. In short, this research showed that the use of blended learning in teaching English speaking not only provided teachers with pedagogically effective ways in the teaching process but also created the motivation for the students to speak English effectively
