- This paper presents an experimental methodology to evaluate the effects of the self-healing of cracks on the steel-concrete bond. The experimental methodology envisaged the creation of concrete specimens, made with three different mixes, to investigate the effects of a crystalline admixture as a self-healing promoter as well as of a protective grout for reinforcing bars. Through pull-out tests, the specimens were pre-cracked and subjected, together with virgin companion specimens, to wet and dry cycles in water with different degrees of salinity. To facilitate the evaluation of the self-healing of the specimens, indices relating to the physical-mechanical characteristics have been defined.
