- Today, in front of all participants in the educational process, there is a problem of improving the quality of education, its adaptation to life realities: economic, social, cultural, demographic, etc. The Ukrainian higher school, identifying the main ways of its reforms, entered into the period of practical assessment of its own mentality, formed traditions in the field of forms and methods of teaching, control of the quality of knowledge, verification of their adequacy to the goals, tasks, level of development of the universal, material and technological culture of society. The current legislation in the field of education requires significant changes in the control over the quality of education, in particular higher education, and will promote the further development of both independent Ukraine and its people, in particular at the scientific, economic and spiritual levels. The article deals with the actual issue of control in the system of higher education. Thoroughly, on the basis of analysis of a significant source base, the concept of control in the system of higher education is analyzed. According to the author, the Law of Ukraine «On Education» incorporates changes in Ukrainian legislation in the direction of European integration processes, as well as the positive experience of exercising control in the system of higher education abroad. The article analyzes the principles and stages of control over the quality of higher education in Ukraine. The author states that the adoption of the new Law of Ukraine «On Education» will promote the expansion of control functions in the field of higher education.
