- Nowadays, the geoenvironmental mapping of the marine areas is still being on the stage of standardization, requiring further developments. The methodology of the mapping of the marine areas lacks commonly accepted standards. Therefore, there are many issues in GIS techniques concerning the thematic mapping of the marine areas on which there is no single point of view. The paper provides a brief overview of the existing methods which provide the most effective marine mapping techniques. These include thematic clusters such as lithological, coastal areas (landscape and environmental), geomorphological, geochemical and geoecological.
