- The problem of interpretation as the final stage of stylistic studies of fiction is described in this article. Various approaches to interpretation of a literary text is analyzed. 1) literary text embodies some content consciously attached to it by the author, and the task of the researcher is the rediscovering of this content, comprehension and clarification of the author's ideological and artistic intent in its entirety; 2) along with it, starting from Potebnya, but particularly strongly in recent decades, the literary text is seen as alienated from the author's intentions “verbal agent”, calling a free game of the interpretational ingenuity of the reader. In the article one of possible ways of understanding ideological and artistic literary semantics is justified, taking into account the semantics and the author's intent, which is the core of the work, and a certain degree of the interpretational freedom of the reader, whose perceptions can be enriched with associations, hidden in the depths of the text, but not invected into it externally. Interpretational actions consist in consistent and motivated switching of problems of artistic speech, problems of images of characters and narrator to the ideological and semantic plan of the work and in avoiding subjective interpretations, detached from the dynamic structure of the text. As a methodically subsidiary method, an initial intuitive analysis of literary and artistic works is postulated.
