  • The place and role of higher education in the modern Ukrainian students' life strategies were studied with the original sociological survey materials and also based on the analysis of the main development trends in Ukrainian higher education. Life strategies are defined as a complex phenomenon associated with the key categories that characterize human life in general and their social behavior. Life strategy – a way of organizing the person's own life, the ability to bring living conditions in line with their own values and individual uniqueness. Life strategy serves as a pattern (or plan), in which elments are articulated and integrated into a certain coherent unity: the main purposes of human, understanding (reasoning)) of means (resources) and timeframe to achieve the intermediate and final goals, etc. It is proved that under the conditions of the general socio-economic uncertainty, higher education retains its value and significance as an important social institution designed to form a variety of personal competence, spiritual needs, to prepare for success in the face of change, risk and innovation. In order for the higher education institution to meet the expectations of high school students, it is necessary to fight for intellectual leadership, focus on the forward-looking development strategy and intellectual economy.
