- The article examines the essence of the concept "language education" in domestic and foreign, in particular, Greek science. The views of scientists on the purpose and objectives, structure of language education are analyzed. It is found that both domestic and most Greek scholars consider linguistic education as a value (state, society, personality), as a system, as a process and as a result. The presentation of the structure of linguistic education, which corresponds to the main stages of the educational process, covering pre-school, school and higher education in both public and private sectors, is approximately the same. However, there are some differences in the distinguishing the leading areas of language education. So, if Ukrainian scholars, as a rule, define three directions (learning the state language, learning the native language, learning a foreign language), then the Greek researchers necessarily add another one - learning the state language (Modern Greek) as a foreign language.
