  • The article deals with the problem of the status of philosophy in the system of university education from the point of view of the L’viv-Warsaw School (LWS) (1895–1939). The choice of the topic is determined by the policy of curtailing the academic hours in Ukraine for the study of philosophy at higher educational institutions. The consideration of philosophy in the science field in university problem was carried out on the basis of the works of Jan Lukasiewicz ―Science and Philosophy‖ (1915), Tadeusz Kotarkinsky’s ―Life and Less Life Concepts of the Philosophy Problems‖ (1936), Tadeusz Chziewski ―Didactics of Philosophy in University Education‖ (1946) and Jozef Maria Bocenskiss ―Between Logic and Faith‖ (1992). It was found out that LWS considered philosophy as the basis of university studies. It is highlighted that the definition of LWS philosophy as a group of sciences and worldview is relevant in the context of the modern "battle for philosophy" in Ukraine. If the representatives of the Ukrainian philosophical community explain leveling the values of philosophy for higher education by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as arising from ambiguity of its subject in Ukraine, then, in view of the LWS, the definition of the subject of philosophy must precede the definition of what philosophy itself is. Probably the ―battle for philosophy‖ in Ukraine would have ended in a complete defeat of its opponents, if the domestic wise lovers of philosophy were moved into the plane of their stay between everyday and the science, and then they would find out the purpose of philosophy in the sciences. The argument in favor of defining philosophy LWS is the position of Georges Moor – the professor of practical philosophy at the Bremen University, who asserts the double dual connection (der zweifache Doppelbezug) philosophy. It is concluded that philosophy has the right to uniqueness in course of university education because it is the philosophy as a group of sciences and the worldview that can guarantee the progress of the sciences and the development of society.
