- The article examines the relationship between competition and competitiveness, identifies the types of competition and their impact on the level of competitiveness in the education system. The approaches to the interpretation of the notion of competitiveness in the current conditions of management and the functioning of educational institutions have been analyzed. A comprehensive definition that characterizes the competitiveness of an educational institution with regard to environmental factors has been singled out. The main trends in the disclosure of the characteristics of the competitiveness of educational institutions have been noted. Factors influencing the formation of competitiveness of educational institutions have been singled out. The conclusion about the need for an integrated system approach in the study of the competitiveness of educational services and the choice of strategies to enhance the competitive advantages of higher education institutions has been made
