- The article is devoted to the features of the functioning of the epigraph in the poetry of Z. M. Valshonok, which is widely used by the poet. Z. M. Valshonok precedes with the epigraphs not only verses, but also some poems. Most often as epigraphs are used poetic quotations from the works of the authors of the ХІХ-ХХ centuries. Proceeding from the typology of the epigraph proposed by N. A. Kuzmina, which distinguishes its autonomous and metonymic shapes, it is concluded that the autonomous epigraph is infrequent of Valshonok; most epigraphs used by the poet are of the type of metonymic, the main function of which is the ―actualization of genetic connections‖ (N. A. Kuzmina). We see the prospect of the study in the analysis of the function of the epigraph in Z. M. Valshonok‘s verses, which were not considered in this article, and also in his original poems.
